ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The candidacies of both men running in Albany's Ward 3 city commission race are being challenged.

Arthur K. Williams says his opponent, Christopher Pike, missed the qualification deadline which was noon September 4th.

Williams candidacy is being challenged, too. Ward 3 resident Lon McNeill filed a challenge with the Dougherty County Board of elections this afternoon, because Williams owes tens of thousands of dollars in back taxes.

McNeil says Williams should not be allowed to run for- or hold- elected office.

"I wanted to get the challenge in before the deadline, so that we would then have time to look into this closer, and see if there is actually an issue here," said McNeill. If there is not, if there's not an issue, turns out this is being taken care of in some manner, I'm fine. Run. But if it's not being taken care of, he's not qualified to be a candidate. Nobody would be. It's not about him as a person. It's about the procedure."

The Board of Elections will hold hearings on both challenges.

The board will hear Williams' challenge of Pike next Monday at 4:00 and McNeil's challenge of Williams at 4:30.
