ALBANY, GA (WALB) - It's a murder investigation like no other in Albany. Nearly a dozen people are already in jail and police are still looking for others in the murder of Reginald Richardson.

Gang members are being rounded up because of their roles in a gang initiation beating death.

Reginald Richardson was kicked and hit until he died June 23rd by the Black Gangsta Disciples during what the gang calls a "beat-in". APD wants your help in putting this gang out of business.

It was after midnight on June 23rd that more than a dozen members of the Black Gangsta Disciples gathered in the Sand Dunes to beat two wannabe gangsters into their club of crime.

32-year-old Reginald Richardson and 28-year-old Antonio Crapps were beaten so badly, that Richardson didn't survive.

Just before 2:00AM, Crapps and a woman drove Richardson to Phoebe Putney Hospital, but he was already dead.

In the months since his death, seven men have been charged with his murder, but police say there will be more.

"Initially I believe there was possibly 10 to 12 people involved in this. At this time we have already arrested seven people for murder. And we comfortably feel there were approximately three or four more people involved in this incident," Investigator Arthur Tyler said.

In all 11 people have been charged in connection with the gang activity tied to the murder, and Gang Unit leaders say the death has cut gang crime slightly.

"It has caused more individuals who are involved in gang activity to pause and think before doing a criminal act," Lt. Tony Moore said.

Investigators and the Gang Unit say members of the community continue to give information about the Black Gangsta Disciples and the murder, and they are confident that information will lead to more arrests.

  • These men are suspects in the murder case-

"We anticipate being able to link other individuals maybe, not so much with this crime, but with other crimes of that gang. Hopefully we will make more arrests on that gang and possibly move them out of the city of Albany,"  Moore said.

Investigators and Gang Unit officers continue working on this gang murder case, hoping your information will lead to the death of the Black Gangsta Disciples.

If you have any information about the Reginald Richardson murder, or gang activity surrounding it, they ask you call CRIME STOPPERS at 436-TIPS, or the Gang Unit at 229-407-3310.

There are rewards being offered for your information in this murder case.
