ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Albany State University professor jailed on sexual assault charges made his first appearance in court Wednesday morning.
A judge set bond for Dr. Phillip Jemilohun at $20,000. The 63-year-old associate professor was arrested Tuesday and charged with sexual assault and attempted sexual assault on two female students.
Chief Magistrate Judge Baxter Howell lowered the original bond set at $100,000 under the condition that he turns in his Nigerian passport to the sheriff's office.
According to police, the young women who reported Jemilohun's misconduct were students of his but did not know each other.
Jemilohun, who taught at ASU's Department of Natural Science, is suspended without pay. He remains in the Dougherty County Jail.
