ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Former President Jimmy Carter calls the death of one of his top aides "a great personal loss."

Jody Powell was one of Carter's closest campaign advisors and then served his White House press secretary. The 65-year old native of Vienna died today of an apparent heart attack at his home in Maryland.

Albany School Board Attorney, Jimmy Coleman remembers Jody's personality and work ethic during the Carter administration.

"He was an extraordinary talented press secretary and very good at the art of politics," Coleman noted. "I could tell from talking to members of the press and others not in the press that he was extraordinarily good press secretary."

After leaving the White House, Powell founded a Washington public relations firm.
