ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A dog who helped sick people feel better and helped raise awareness for the Albany Humane Society has died.

For 13 of his 14 years, Hero spent time bringing smiles to the sick as part of the Delta Society Pet Partner Program. He was always eager to rest his big yellow head on a knee and listen.

Hero was a cancer survivor and promoted spaying and neutering and won several accolades from the Georgia Medical Association and even an award from Pedigree dog food as the nation's top service dog.

You're invited to bring your animal to a memorial service and blessing of the pets at the Albany Humane Society Thursday, September 17th, 2009 at 5:00 PM.
