Is Arthur qualified to run?

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Board of elections does not plan to review the eligibility of an Albany city commission candidate unless a voter in his ward issues a formal complaint.

Court records show Arthur Williams has several tax liens against him that go back more than a decade.

He owes the Internal Revenue Service close to $100,000.

The Georgia Constitution says a person who defaults on taxes cannot hold public office unless the candidate is on a payment plan to repay those taxes.

Elections Supervisor Ginger Nickerson says she will not take the matter before the Board of elections at its meeting on Wednesday.

If a Ward three voter plans to challenge Williams' qualifications, they must do that by Friday.
