Albany- Representative John Noel of Atlanta wants to change the law to allow Georgians to purchase wines not carried in local stores on the net, and have the bottles shipped directly to their homes.

But South Georgia alcohol retailers are against the idea. Louis Bennard, manager at The Warehouse says not only would passing the bill cut into sales, but it would also cause problems with underage drinkers purchasing wine.

Small vineyards can get a permit to ship wines into the state, but they have to designate a wholesaler. Direct sales to customers are prohibited.
