ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Hunters all over the Georgia grabbed their equipment and headed out into the woods early Saturday morning for the kickoff of the archery season.

Deer season is considered the most popular time of year for hunters all over Georgia.

Just last week dove season kicked off, but many hunters we spoke with say they have been looking forward to hunting deer more than anything.

Last archery season, more than 90 thousand hunters harvested more than 42,000 deer.

"Its been a big rush for us here at the store yesterday, today especially the past two months or so shelves are empty a lot of products selling," said Backwoods Outdoors employee Austin Albright.

Store employees warn hunters to always wear a safety harness.

Rifle season kicks off October 17th.
