VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - One technical college in south Georgia is changing it's name next year.

Valdosta Technical College recently announced it will merge with East Central Technical College and be named Wiregrass Georgia Technical College beginning July 1, 2010.

Students, staff and faculty put together a list of 38 names and Wiregrass Georgia was selected by the board directors from both the colleges.

"As you drive across south Georgia the things that you notice are the pine trees and the wiregrass," said Dr. Ray Perren, Valdosta Technical College President. "Just as the wiregrass covers this area our technical college covers this service area."

Dr. Perren says the combination of the technical schools give students more opportunities throughout the region.
