ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Dougherty County leaders got their first look inside a new library branch Wednesday. The New Northwest Albany Library will open in just a few weeks.

Dougherty County Commissioners took a tour of the Dawson Road facility Wednesday morning. The library is in the old Rhodes furniture store building, which underwent a $4 Million renovation.

County Commission Chairman Jeff Sinyard says it's sales tax money well-spent. "This is awesome," he said.  "This is beyond our expectations. I think this is the most positive thing that's happened in Dougherty County in years. If you look at the ability for this library to grow and to seat more people and to have a better response from the community, it's pretty phenomenal."

Shelving units, tables and equipment are still being put together. Books should be on the shelves by September 21st. The grand opening is October 1st.
