Lee mystery death solved

January 29, 2002

Lee County-- Remember the man whose body was found lying by the road in Lee County back in October? Investigators now say he died because he jumped out a moving car.

40-year-old Charles Unruh was found dead alongside Kinchafoonee Creek Road October 13th. He and a friend had left a party and police now say Unruh jumped from Michael Tate's car and it killed him. Investigator Geoff Smith says, "Mr. Tate was trying to keep him in the vehicle but when they were traveling down the road Unruh stepped out."

Investigators say Tate did not return after Unruh jumped out. Unruh died from trauma to the head when he struck the road.
