Albany -- If you are planning new home or business construction, new Georgia law governing soil and water conservation could affect you
One big change, erosion control will now be mandatory for all construction projects over one acre in size. So soil and water erosion protection like hay bales and guard strips will have to surround many more building projects. It's being done to protect and try to conserve water in Georgia.
Rose Mary Seymour of the University of Georgia Extension Service said "Smaller towns and cities in Georgia are being required now to implement new planning management systems for their storm water."
The 5 years of drought have emphasized the need to protect Georgia's water resources. More smaller cities in Georgia will be required to control storm water run off as part of expanded conservation programs.
