THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - Hands on Thomas county is asking the community to sign up for the county's biggest volunteer opportunity of the year.

Thursday the non-profit organization kicked off their 6th annual Hands on Thomas County Day by holding a luncheon for this year's project leaders, to brief them on what to expect.

There are 33 projects planned this year, and there's something for everyone, from painting houses, to building homes, to volunteering at nursing homes.

And in today's economic climate, they say volunteering is important. Hands on Thomas county supports other local non-profits, all of which are struggling financially.

The organization would like to have 1200 volunteers for the event. Now's the time to sign up for the big day.

Hands on Thomas County Day will be held on September 26th.
