LEESBURG, GA (WALB) - Two weeks after saying the San Francisco Giants were not going to call up catcher Buster Posey in September, Posey is on his way to join the Giants in Philadelphia.
Buster's father Demp Posey was changing planes in Charlotte on his way to Philadelphia for Wednesday's game confirmed his son was called up by the Giants late Tuesday.
Buster Posey is expected to be in uniform for Wednesday's game in Philadelphia.
Posey's call-up to the majors is due to an injury to Giants catcher Bengie Molina.
Molina has been limited to pinch-hitting duties for the last seven games with a quadriceps injury.
The former Florida State Seminole was the Giants number one pick last year.
He started the season at Class A San Jose where he was named to the California League All-Star team.
Posey jumped over AA when he was promoted to the Giants AAA team in Fresno in mid-July.
After a slow start at the plate, Buster Posey had adjusted to AAA pitching with a seven game hitting streak and had raised his average to .321.
He also had hit five homruns in 131 at-bats.
