Two bizarre wrecks Tuesday morning

January 28, 2003

Putney-- A Colquitt County man is lucky to be alive after falling asleep at the wheel Tuesday morning. James Boatwright was on his way to work about 6:30 a.m.when he swerved off the shoulder of the Liberty Expressway striking two mailboxes. He hit a ditch and his ford ranger pickup overturned.

Miraculously Boatwright's truck careened safely into the median and he woke up unharmed. He did not even require medical treatment when the ambulance arrived.

Another bizarre wreck was in Warwick.Beer was scattered on Georgia 300 when the truck overturned. The truck was towed to Albany. It was carrying 2,000 cases of Southpaw Light beer when it lost its load. That's 48,000 bottles, or 36,000 pounds of beer. No one was injured and the mess was cleaned up in about two hours. As you can see much of the beer was salvaged.
