Officers rush to Georgetown to stop riot

GEORGETOWN, GA (WALB) - More than 40 officers from several counties rushed to Georgetown Thursday afternoon to help quell a riot.

The Quitman County Sheriff says two deputies were assaulted by a group of six to eight men after a traffic stop.

He says around two hundred people then poured into the street in front of the courthouse to challenge officers there.

Nine people were arrested.  Warrants were issued for the men who initially attacked the deputies.  They were injured, but will be okay.
