
Esco and freshman Dustin Hopkins remain locked in a tight battle to replace Graham Gano.
Head coach Bobby Bowden says it is hard to tell right now if there is a leader.
Hopkins has the strongest leg but Esco helped his cause by hitting 3-4 field goals in a scrimmage on Saturday.
Special teams coordinator Jody Allen credited Esco for his improvement and believes it could be the day of the season opener against Miami on Labor Day night before the starting place kicker is announced for the Seminoles.
