ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Non-profit groups and small businesses were honored Wednesday morning for their contributions to the Albany community.

They were recognized by the Albany Dougherty Chamber of Commerce during a Rise 'n Shine Breakfast at the The Hilton Garden Inn.

Modern Gas was honored as the small business of the year. The Lily Pad, a sexual assault crisis center, was selected as the non-profit of the year.

"We provide forensic exams and forensic interviews of women and children who've been physically abused or sexually assaulted. This has been a very supportive community. And we believe that while these services are essential, it's also essential that the community recognizes that and embraces that, and they've certainly done that today," said Lily Pad Executive Director Karen Kemp.

Eagle Cleaners and Ole Times Country Buffet were finalists for small business of the year. Girls, Inc. and the Thronateeska Heritage Center were this years non profit finalists.
