ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A Moultrie man is now charged with arson after setting his girlfriend's home on fire Saturday night.

Investigators say a dog inside the home died in the blaze.  Thirty-three year old Shamas Tindol was arrested in a nearby field after neighbors say he threatened to burn down the home because he was mad at his girlfriend Paula Collins.

Collins was renting the home on Highway 133 south. Tindol claimed candles left burning in the living room started the fire, but investigators say it's clear the fire was intentionally set in a bedroom.

Tindol remains in the Colquitt County Jail and was also charged with a probation violation.
