ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The high school football season will start a week later than planned for the Sherwood Christian football team.
SCA athletic director Luke Bowers says Lyman Ward Academy in Alabama has notified the school that Friday's game in Camp Hill, Alabama has been canceled.
Bowers says Lyman Ward canceled the game because at least 11 Lyman Ward players have contracted swine flu.
Lyman Ward is the second season opening opponent to cancel with the Eagles for the 2009 season.
Sherwood Christian scheduled Lyman Ward after Loganville Christian notified the Eagles in the spring they were not going to have a varsity football team this season.
Bowers says Sherwood Christian has been unable to find a last minute opponent.
The Eagles first game with new head coach Reginald Mitchell will be Friday September 4th at home against Brookwood School.
The Brookwood game will start at 7:30 p.m. on September 4th.
