Radium Springs- Demolition companies toured the Radium Springs Casino, as they prepare to bid for the contract to tear down the historic landmark.

Representatives from more than 10 companies from across the Southeastern United States attended the pre-bid meeting. To protect the Springs, the demolition of the casino will have to be done without large machinery. No one is sure if the limestone caverns will support the weight of bulldozers or cranes.

"We are concerned that the heavy equipment might break through the rock roof of the channel," says Consulting Engineer John Sperry. "There is a lot we don't know about it, even though there is some we do know. This whole area is pock marked with what is known as karst, or sink hole topography."

The demolition companies were told they would have 50 days to take down the casino. G.E.M.A. regulations say the Casino must be down by March.

Senator Saxby Chambliss has asked for an extension on the demolition date.
