AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - Year one of the Tim Goodin era at Southland Academy kicks off Thursday night.

Goodin takes over as head coach of the Raiders who went 4-6 last year.

Nine starters are back on defense and eight return on offense.

The biggest question mark is at QB.

Tailback Brandon Ray will play quarterback after Southland's top two quarterbacks transferred this summer.

The Raider offense will no longer run a wing T with Goodin installing the spread option.

Goodin says besides the change to the offense much of what Southland has done in the past will remain the same.

"It's not walking in where everything has to be changed by any means. We've got a good coaching staff and a lot of the things they were doing we pretty much have continued" said Goodin.

Goodin says the strength of the Raiders should be their physicality.

"We have a lot of kids that will hit a lot of kids that our physical. They've played in triple A. They know what's expected of them. We have a few that need to grow up a little more that hadn't been playing that can help us a lot during the season" said Goodin.

Southland will open up the season tomorrow night at Tiftarea. Kick off is set for 7:30.
