19-year-old Courtney Jones was shot and killed Thursday night in what officers say was a drug deal.

When you first pull up to Eastview Apartments you are greeted by this yellow sign that says "Don't let Drugs Spoil your dreams." But ironically, police say four young men who lived at these apartments let drugs do just that.

Over the weekend police arrested six people in the shooting death of 19-year old Courtney Jones who was shot to death in the drivers seat of his fathers Ford Explorer Thursday night. His passenger, Gilbert Brown, was in critical condition with gunshots wounds.

Each of the suspects ranging in age from 15 to 26 are charged with Murder.

Police say it was originally reported as an accident off Cherokee Street, but upon further investigation they discovered a shooting had occurred.

"What we found out is that a drug transaction was the start of the incident that immediately went wrong and became an armed robbery situation and moved forward into a homicide situation which the driver of the vehicle was killed," said Americus Police Chief James Green.

Police say the young men were preparing to buy a Ziploc bag full of marijuana but also planned to rob the driver of the car.

"You never know the people that you may be hanging out with how severe their situation may be what their mind set may be and some of these young men may or may not have been aware of what was going to transpire to start with but they ended up in the middle of it," said Chief Green.
