Fitzgerald hoping for region title

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Fitzgerald football fans have become accustom to winning and winning often. Head coach Robby Pruitt has led the Purple Hurricanes to 52 wins and only nine losses in the last five seasons.

Pruitt and his Purple Hurricanes are coming off a trip to the final four in the state playoffs last year.

About a dozen starters return from that team.

The offense will be led by fullback Nick Williams, runningback Trenton Pruitt, and tight end RJ Davis.

Sophomore Caleb Nobel will take over at quarterback.

Coach Pruitt says defense will be the big question mark.

The Purple Hurricanes have only lost 3 region games in the last 5 seasons and 2 of those losses came last year.

Coach says a big key to winning a region title this year comes down to staying healthy.

"Last year when we had out quarterback was out with mono and we had Jameah Thomas that was hurt. We've got to avoid the injury bug and do like we did last year in the playoffs and just get a little better each week" said Pruitt.

Fitzgerald will kick off the season on August 28th at Irwin County.
