ASU celebrates MLK Thursday

January 23, 2003

ALBANY -- Albany State University celebrated the life of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. Thursday. Michael Dyson told the students Dr. King would not stand for President Bush's attacks on affirmative action, and he wouldn't support the war on Iraq either.

Dr. Michael Dyson, said, "MLK was a radical figure because he spoke against war in Vietnam, he spoke against racism even when it was compromising in the minds of other blacks the Civil Rights Movement."

Dyson is an accomplished author and columnist. He entertained the crowd with his renditions of motown songs, showing the students they sent out a much better message than today's hip hop.

Dyson has ties to Albany, his father grew up here.
