Camilla - An undercover sting in Camilla catches an off-duty firefighter, a grocery cashier and a store clerk selling alcohol to minors.

Camilla Fire Captain Jeffrey Gardner was charged yesterday for selling beer to someone underage. Gardner has a part-time job at Shilps Quick Food Mart on North Harney Street. Also charged, 18-year-old Ivan Pate of Baconton at Winn Dixie on Highway 19. Investigators will charge a store clerk at H and K Food on Highway 37. All three people are first offenders.

Camilla Fire Chief David Irwin does not plan to take action against Gardner until he goes before a judge for selling alcohol to a minor.

Gardner is also involved in a pending lawsuit against the City of Camilla. Gardner and Captain Roger Clayton sued claiming racial discrimination for not being promoted to fire chief.
