ALBANY, GA (WALB) - If you've passed by the old casino on Radium Springs Road and seen the construction, you may have been wondering what was happening there.

Since it closed many years ago, the site of the casino has been mostly empty.

But now Dougherty County is turning it into a botannical garden. The garden will have a themed look, including a casino garden which will be located along where the old walls of the casino once stood.

The project costs about 2.5 million dollars and is being paid for by Special Local Option Sales Tax money. It is scheduled to be done in December or January and will be free.

The gardens are just Phase One of the redevelopment of the area. In Phase Two, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources will be making a walking and birding trail adjacent to the garden.
