Decatur Sheriff's introduces Offender Watch

Bainbridge,  GA (WALB) -   The Decatur County sheriff's office has a new way to track sex offenders. The Offender Watch program is helpful to both law enforcement and citizens.

About 50 other Georgia counties use the system, which allows better communication when a sex offender moves or breaks the law.

Decatur County's new site has a lot more information on the registered sex offenders such as detailed descriptions, updated photos, and where they work. You can find out how many sex offenders live in your area and get email alerts.

"Citizens can register their email," said Decatur County Sheriff Wiley Griffin. "And if a sex offender moves within two miles of their house, or their residence, it will notify them immediately that that sex offender has moved in to the neighborhood."

The sheriff says sex offenders tend to re-offend more often than other criminals, so it's important to track them carefully.
