Cairo - A former tax employee is arrested for stealing thousands of dollars of money from tax payments.

Forty-six-year-old Angela Pamela Cooper was arrested yesterday at her Cairo home. GBI agents say Cooper is accused of taking $8,300 from the tax commissioners office at the courthouse in Cairo, where she worked.

Cooper was charged with theft by taking, giving false statements and computer theft. Agents say Cooper was altering tax payments on the computer and taking the cash.

The GBI has been investigating Cooper since last spring.
