Chambliss steps up to save Radium Springs Casino

January 22, 2003

Albany - In the eleventh hour, U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss wants an extension on the demolition of Radium Springs Casino. Chambliss representative, Debbie Cannon, asked county commissioners to allow Chambliss's office to send a letter to FEMA requesting more time. The casino is set for demolition on March 1st, and only an Act of Congress could save the landmark now.

"Chambliss doesn't have a plan to preserve the casino, but he knows something must be done," said Cannon. "Congressman Sanford Bishop and Senator Zell Miller support the fight to save the Casino too."

Commissioners agreed to the extension request but aren't optimistic the Radium Springs Casino will escape the wrecking ball.
