Georgia troops head for the Gulf

January 21, 2003
Hinesville- More Georgia troops are on their way to the Persian Gulf tonight.

The third infantry division at Fort Stewart includes four brigades; each with about four thousand soldiers.

Specialist Alvin Givens is one of those soldiers. He spent six months in Kosovo, and just got home two months ago.

Not long after he returned, he found out he would be deployed to the Gulf. He got his final orders last night. And right now he's at Hunter Army Airfield about forty miles from Fort Stewart to begin his journey.

Specialist Givens spent the day running errands and just spending time with his wife and 11-year-old son.

He says this deployment is harder on his family than the last because he hasn't been home that long; and because now there is a serious threat of war.

When the latest deployment is complete, there could be as many as 16 thousand soldiers from Fort Stewart in the Gulf Region.
