ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A 19-year-old woman faces numerous charges after she nearly ran over an Albany Police officer.

Officer Janel Herring spotted the car of a suspect in a case she'd been working in the Payless Shoes parking lot a little before 5 o'clock Thursday night.

As Chaya Leela Quita Allan left the store, Officer Herring called for back-up, then walked up to Allan's car and told her she was under arrest.

Allan took off and knocked Herring to the ground with her car door.

As she sped away, Allan crashed into a car at the intersection of Dawson Road and Meredyth Drive, then got out and ran.  Another officer caught her.

Police say Allan had just stolen a wallet from an employee area in Payless Shoes.  They also found a wallet stolen from a Lee County woman.

Allan is charged with burglary, theft by taking, aggravated assault of an officer and felony obstruction.  Other criminal charges and traffic citations likely will be added.
