ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A man is behind bars for robbing an East Albany convenience store last night.

Just before 9:00, police say 41-year-old Lorenzo Russ asked a clerk to make change for him at A&S Foods on Mobile Avenue.

As the clerk opened the register, he jumped across the counter and grabbed a handful of cash out of the register. He never pulled a weapon and no one was hurt.

An attentive employee had seen him in the store earlier in the day making it easier for police to track him down.

"That's what we hope citizens will do, pay extra attention to those people that enter into their businesses, notice their mannerisms and that information is always helpful to police," said Phyllis Banks-Whitley, Albany Police Media Manager.

Russ is charged with robbery by sudden snatching.
