ALBANY, Ga. – About 9:30 Monday morning, Procter and Gamble personnel notified the Albany Public Works Department and the Marine Corps Logistics Base of a sewage leak on the base, near P&G property.

The leak occurred in a sewage pipe, which is inside concrete, and some of the spill leaked into the nearby Marine Corps Canal.

Al Hargrove, head of the base's Environmental Branch and other branch personnel joined Albany Public Works Department personnel at the leak, where City Public Works Department personnel set up two pumping trucks to pump the waste out of the canal, and into another sewer line that runs into the city's pipe system, to prevent any waste from emptying into the Flint River.

Workers then placed sandbags in the canal and contained the spill. Complete clean up and repair is underway. The Georgia Environmental Protection Division has been notified, and the cause of the spill is under investigation.
