Grass fire slows traffic on Liberty Bypass

January 20, 2003

Albany -- Afternoon traffic on the Liberty Bypass in Albany was slowed by a grass fire. Firefighters think a careless motorist throwing out a cigarette sparked the blaze. It started about 2:30 near the bridge over the Flint River near Blaylock Street.

Shrubs and grass in the median and on the west side of the bypass were both on fire when fire trucks arrived. Traffic was slowed both by drivers watching the firefighters and the smoke from the blaze.

The grass fire was extinguished quickly, with no damage.
