Valdostans celebrate MLK day

January 20, 2003

Valdosta - Hundreds of people turned out Monday to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

It was standing room only at St. Paul AME Church where they gathered to honor King through song, poems, and scripture. The theme of the four day tribute was "Stop the Violence: Turn to one another, not against one another."

"It's important for not only African-Americans, but all people to celebrate what Dr. King did, because he's truly a hero for mankind," said Richard Yancey, St. Paul AME Pastor.

Today's service was followed by a ceremony at Valdosta's Martin Luther King Memorial Site.
