Albany-- Should hand-held cell phones be banned for drivers? One Georgia legislator wants them to be.

State Trooper Scott McClure says cell phones cause unnecessary distraction for drivers. McClure says he has worked lots of wrecks caused by people more concerned with their conversation than the road, "You might not be aware you caused an accident. I've seen that happen. People talking on cell phones cut someone off they lose control but keep driving don't know it happened behind them, steady chatting away on the cell phones."

If the Georgia legislature passes a bill preventing hand held cell phones, drivers could use hand free devices. The sponsor of the bill, Democrat Bobby Parham of Milledgeville, acknowledges the legislation is political dynamite.
