LOWNDES COUNTY, GA (WALB) - Two teenagers were arrested and charged yesterday around lunch time for having guns at school.
A student told a school administrator about a rumor that some students had guns at Lowndes High School.
The rumor turned out to be true. Deputies arrested and charged 18-year old Brandon Gray and his friend 19-year old Anthony Garrison Jr. for carrying weapons in a school safety zone. Both students had pistols in their backpacks and Garrison received a second count for having a pocket knife.
"There was no ammunition that was brought to campus and we're just thankful the student did the right thing, said Principal Wes Taylor. "That was to share the information with an adult and allow us to intervene and school went on as normal."
They were taken to the Lowndes County jail around noon yesterday. Today, a $10,000 bond has been set for Garrison and a $5,000 one for Gray.
Lowndes County Sheriff Chris Prine says this incident shows the importance of having resource officers in every school.
Under Georgia law, it is illegal to have a gun within 1000 feet of a school.
