ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The football season is just around the corner so is football season for the Darton College women's soccer team. The Lady Cavaliers opening their fall season with three practices today.

Head coach Ken Veilands says the sessions are needed after his team suffered heavy graduation losses from last year's squad that finished second in the nation.

Darton returns keeper Allison Ryan and freshman Ariana Walsh from Gwinnett County is expected to provide immediate scoring ability.

The coach knows other players will have to step up because the national championship expectations haven't changed at Darton.

Ken Veilands said. "I certainly don't think on paper that we are a favorite to win the conference or the region. We are going approach a bit different this year. change some things around and maybe do things a little bit different."

Sophomore Jo-Anne Saliba said. "The sophomores this year have pretty much set our standard and set out goal. We want to get there again. We want to be undefeated all year and we want to win nationals this year."

Darton will play two scrimmage games this weekend including one on Sunday afternoon at home.

The Lady Cavs open the season with two games in Meridian, Mississippi on the weekend of August 28th.
