ALBANY, GA (WALB) -The mother of a young man shot to death a week ago while committing a robbery died Monday afternoon.

Friends say she died of a broken heart.

34-year old Shantel Jackson died at the home of a friend on Skylane Drive.

August 1st Jackson's 20-year old son Christopher Childress was shot to death outside a duplex on North Madison.

Police say he was trying to rob two men when one of them pulled a gun and shot him seven times.

It was ruled a justifiable case of self defense.

Jackson was blind and on oxygen for breathing difficulties.

Last week she told us she did not believe her son was a gang member, and she had lots of questions about the investigation.

A memorial service for Childress was held Saturday. Jackson's friend Lynne Williams said  "It wore her out. She was already sickly, and this just drained her on down. She was tired. And she went home to rest. She said she would see her son again in heaven. Well, she's there."

The coroner ruled Jackson died of natural causes.
