ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Pelham High football coach Jim Morrell is continuing the task of turning around the Hornets program.

The Hornets have just one win in the last three seasons and it came last year.

Pelham will have 13 seniors on the 2009 roster and several talented freshmen who will be thrown into the fire early.

Fullbacks Desmond Smith and Michael Cochran lead the offense.

Cochran also leads the defense at linebacker.

Coach Morrell is working on the mental side for a team that has experienced so many losses.

His motto this summer is no excuses and he believes there won't be many excuses if the Hornets can get out of the gate quickly.

"We have got to battle early and we have got to win early. I like what I see down the road. We have got to have some success early so the guys can believe in what we are doing" said Morrell.

Pelham opens the season at home August 28th against Marion County.
