VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - As teachers return to school, one of them in Valdosta got a nice surprise Thursday.

W.G. Nunn Elementary teacher Anne Cardella was announced Valdosta City School System's Teacher of the Year.

She's the third from that school to earn the honor.

"Make mistakes, get messy," said Anne Cardella, W.G. Nunn Gifted Teacher. "I believe those hands-on experiences and those opportunities they wouldn't get other wise are things I'm able to do with them and that just makes me a fortunate teacher."

Teachers were nominated from every school in the system and judges were selected from around the state to select the winner.
