Let freedom sing

January 15, 2003

Albany celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s actual birthday Wednesday with a performance by the Freedom Singers. The group performed for Darton students. They educate young people about the Civil Rights Movement through songs of the period.

Eartha Watkins said, "We try to bring up major things of Civil Rights Movement, busses, sit ins, marches, being in jail."

The Freedom Singers first formed in 1962 and were reborn 5 years ago under the direction of one of the original members. The Freedom Singers will also perform during Monday's King Day Celebration.
