Valdosta - Firefighters struggled to put out the flames from an Isuzu Trooper that burst into a ball of fire after plowing into a propane tank Wednesday.

"Right now, we're trying to put out the fire and make sure the gas isn't leaking or causing any security issues," said Commander Steven Heaton.

One body was found in the drivers' seat of the vehicle, burned beyond recognition. Eyewitness Joel Strickland says he's never seen such a sight.

"It passed a couple of the cars, went right through the stop sign and red light," said Strickland. "It had to be going about 65 mph when it hit the tank and instantly burst into a huge orange blaze of fire."

From eyewitness reports, investigators do not believe the vehicle was being chased, but aren't sure why it was traveling so recklessly. They expect it to be several days before all their questions are answered.
