ALBANY, GA (WALB) -  One day after County Chairman Jeff Sinyard said it's time to put consolidation back on the table, Bob Langstaff says he wants city commissioners to vote on it.

Langstaff says voters should be allowed to decide whether to consolidate Albany and Dougherty County governments.

"To get the matter to the people and let them decide on consolidation," said Langstaff. "The charter doesn't have to be perfect. The legislators might tweak the charter a little bit, whoever, if consolidation goes through, the newly elected government could tweak the charter."

The commission will discuss the charter at their next work session, in two weeks.

A representative from the Carl Vinson institute will come to Albany at the end of the month to discuss consolidated government.
