The Valdosta school system has received 24 applications for their vacant head coaching job and superintendent Sam Allen expects that number to reach 30 by the end of this week.
Allen says applications have come from as far away as Alaska, Colorado and Indiana.
Most of the applications are from Georgia including one current Valdosta High assistant coach.
The search committee will continue to take applications until January 31st and that committee will begin conducting interviews before the application deadline.
The committee will present three names for the board of education to pick a new head coach.
The committee hopes to wrap up its work by the end of next month.
The new Valdosta High coach will succeed Mike O'Brien who was fired after seven seasons.
