ALBANY, GA (WALB) -Police want you to turn on your porch lights Tuesday night and work with your neighbors to fight crime.

Tuesday night is the 26th annual National Night Out.

Dougherty County Police, School Police, the Sheriff's Office, and Albany Fire Department will host a National Night Out event at Radium Springs Middle School from five till eight.

Several hundred people turned out at last year's celebration.

First responders hope even more people will attend Tuesday night and let criminals know they are not wanted.

Dougherty County PoliceChief Don Cheek said  "Make a statement to the community that we are out here in a partnership. The more we do together the more bridges we build with the community. The better results we get in making this a safe community."

Target stores are the corporate sponsor of the National Night Out.

They and other community sponsors have donated school supplies and food that will be given away tomorrow at Radium Middle.

The Sheriff's Youth Program will give away belts for boys and toiletries for girls.
