ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Dougherty County leaders say a former Albany Marine's promotion means our area has a new friend in Washington.

General Willie Williams oversaw Logistics Command at Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany for four years.

Recently he was named director of Marine Corps Headquarters Command at the Pentagon. That makes him the Chief of Staff for the Marine Corps Commandant, General James T. Conway.

The new position will come with another star for Williams. Once pinned he'll be a Lieutenant General.  Monday, the Dougherty County Commission applauded his accomplishment and said it could be good for MCLB and Dougherty County to have Williams in such a high position.
