ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Albany Police officer was injured overnight when a drunk driver slammed into a police car.

It happened around 11:30 Sunday night at the intersection of Oakridge and South Slappey Boulevard.

Officer Merrill Brown was responding to a call traveling east on Oakridge when he crashed head on into an SUV driven by 57-year-old Willie James Palmer of Leary.

Officer Brown was taken to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital by another officer for non-life threatening injuries.

Police arrested Palmer at the scene. He is being held at the Dougherty County Jail charged with DUI and making an improper left turn.

Officer Brown was treated at the hospital and released.
