Lowndes County - A C-17 aircraft took flight from Moody Air Force Base Thursday afternoon, filled with a medium contingent of airmen headed for the Middle East.

After a long day filled with paperwork, processing and preparing for what could be a long deployment , the airmen are ready for war.

"Our number one duty as military is to do whatever it takes to protect the United States," said Sgt. James Rago.

They're hoping for the best, but prepared for the worst.

"You always hope you won't have to go to war, but if we do, we hope there are no casualties," said Rago.

Although everyone anticipates that war is near, the airmen say with a strong leader and brave troops, the United States military will come home safely.
